Mother Earth/The Body
Earth’s underlying characteristic in its purest form is inertia. She is the wholeness, everything as one before it breaks into duality. Like the inertia of molecules that create the solidity of rock and earth, She is the entire physical world. Anything with a physical existence is part of Her Being.
She is the Mother because all life is planted in Her womb and She clothes it in beingness to bring it forth into physical reality. The Earth’s ability to bring forth life is obvious.
The mind that reads (and hopefully comprehends) these words was also nurtured and learned to survive in the embrace of instinctual knowing just as we were carried in our mothers’ womb and as children lived under her guidance. In the same way, as a species, we went from being instinctual animals to our current dualistic state, comprised of our instincts and our Mind’s separate will and consciousness.
She is our energetic state at birth.
As infants all we know, we know instinctively. During childhood a mind separate from instinct gradually emerges from this original wholeness, but instinct remains as our body’s governing system, maintaining our bodily functions and much more.
When combines with Water, She is winter because cold is the state of inertia as the whole world slows to a halt and freezes solid.
She is the inert state of deep sleep because during deep sleep, just as when we are first born, there is only the body’s functioning with no separate mind activity. Deep sleep, dormancy and night are all periods that can be identified as under the influence of the element of Earth.
She is the consciousness that governs animals, plants and the entire ecosystem. She is one consciousness with many forms. Like the flow of a river directing all within its banks, She moves all of nature to flow as one. Mankind alone has climbed out of the river and has freed himself from Her influence, although not entirely. Even if it might not be registered by our Minds, our Bodies’ instincts still have no small influence over us.
Her color is black
black and white being the original opposites.
Her influence is what dualistic morality would consider “evil”, and not without cause.
The Mind’s effort to evolve a separate awareness from our instincts required a major thrust.
Our individual consciousness is minut compared to the archetypical influence of instinct. So we demonized our instinctual impulses and compulsions.
During the development of Christianity, we were just beginning to move into the thought realm and still at risk of being overwhelmed. The rites of the mass are designed to enforce our disconnect and protect the separate awareness from slipping back into the dark embrace of what is known clinically as “psychosis”.
But, at this point, our species has a secure foothold in Consciousness with boundaries so firmly established that we find ourselves in a state of disconnect from the physical world. Worse still, we’re disconnected from huge portions of our very own beings. We need to find our way back.
Unfortunately, much of the fear of slipping down to the
instinctual level, that was formerly essential for survival, now remains to the point of impeding it. Our broken state is out of balance and it's time to reconnect. So that’s exactly where our evolution is taking us, no if ands or buts.
